Sempervivum- Chick Charms Gold Crown
Description
Sempervivum ‘Chick Charms Gold Crown’ is a hardy alpine succulent forming tight, evergreen rosettes that glow golden-yellow with red blushing at the tips, most vivid in cool spring and fall temperatures. It grows as a low, spreading mat via offsets (“chicks”), thrives in lean, fast-draining soils, and is exceptionally drought and cold tolerant.
Suggested Uses
Perfect for rock and crevice gardens, troughs, shallow containers, xeriscapes, green roofs, edging, fairy gardens, and between stones where drainage is sharp. Excellent for low-maintenance, water-wise plantings and alpine displays.

Care Tips
-
Planting Instructions: Plant crowns at or slightly above soil level in raised/rocky beds or well-drained containers; space 6–8 in.; top-dress with gravel to keep crowns dry -
Soil Moisture: Drought tolerant; water deeply, then allow soil to dry 1–2 in. down before watering again; never keep soggy -
Soil Type: Very well-drained, gritty mix—sandy loam with 30–50% mineral grit (pumice, perlite, or coarse sand); neutral to slightly alkaline pH -
Humidity: Prefers low humidity and good airflow; avoid closed terrariums -
Pruning Instructions: Remove dried lower leaves and spent flower stalks; thin or divide offsets in spring to early summer -
Winter Care: Fully hardy; ensure sharp drainage and keep containers out of standing water; in very wet winters, provide overhead protection from excessive rain -
Planting Depth: Do not bury rosettes; set so the crown sits at soil surface and roots are covered -
Fertilization: Minimal needs; feed once in spring with diluted, low-nitrogen cactus fertilizer (¼ strength) or compost tea; avoid rich soils -
Special Care: Rosettes are monocarpic—mother dies after flowering; allow offsets to fill in. Best color in full sun with cool nights; protect from prolonged heat plus humidity and avoid overwatering
