RedCrocus is a Massachusetts-grown and curated nursery brand built for modern plant shoppers who want better quality, better protection in transit, and better value.
What began as a focused passion for resilient foliage plants has grown into a broad, multi-category plant catalog serving retail gardeners, collectors, corporate gift buyers, wholesale landscape architects, facility managers, and landscapers across the contiguous U.S.
Why I built RedCrocus
The birth of RedCrocus took place during the 2020–2021 coronavirus pandemic. The summer of 2020 was especially difficult due to lockdowns and restrictions. Unable to meet friends, travel, or even see family, I turned to gardening as a way to stay grounded—mentally and physically. At the time, I was also navigating a challenging personal phase and needed something to keep me active and hopeful.
A lifelong love for plants soon deepened into a full-blown passion. I discovered the incredible world of Heuchera and their charming cousins, the Heucherella. These stunning plants, with their breathtaking foliage, completely won me over.
Having lived in New England for over 20 years, I was amazed at how well these little beauties adapted to the region's harsh winters. Even when the skies were gray and cold, their vibrant leaves brought joy. They required minimal care through all seasons, withstood extreme cold in winter and heat and humidity in summer—even thriving with limited watering. What's not to love? Native to North America, they've evolved to be hardy and dependable.
RedCrocus was launched as a tribute to these resilient plants—an ode to nature's quiet strength in difficult times. I co-founded it with a friend, and together we poured time, energy, and resources into designing innovative packaging that would keep the plants safe during transit—a major concern for online plant shoppers. The result? Rave reviews from customers who appreciated the care and quality.
Not everything went as planned. Some of our early assumptions didn't pan out, and our initial design choices limited our ability to expand beyond Heuchera and companion plants. At the end of 2021, I decided to take a break to rework the business and address the limitations we had discovered. Life, as it tends to do, took its own turns—and my friend had to move on.
After years of reflection and rebuilding, I relaunched RedCrocus in 2025—bigger and better. That rebuild is a big part of why the catalog, packaging, and team focus look the way they do today.
